Virgin Media to offer business-oriented cloud services

Virgin MediaWhile most companies are expected to have competent tech staff and personnel to wade through the jargon that may be expected from such services, other mom-and-pop establishments might not be able to handle all that tech speak. But businesses are still businesses, regardless of how big or small they might be. It would be a shame if a certain company is unable to upgrade their backup systems or take advantage of cloud services just because they can’t seem to get past all the technical stuff that comes with some of these offerings.

UK telecommunications company Virgin Media is aware of this and is hard at work on its new business-oriented cloud service–without all the hard-to-understand jargon. Virgin Media will be using Savvis to launch these services under its Virgin Media Business arm.

Virgin already has broadband, fixed line, and mobile communications services as part of its offering. In a recent statement, the company is promising its users a jargon-less experience for establishments that want to develop and test applications and other e-Commerce programs without having to setup their own technical infrastructure.

The managing director of Virgin Media Business, Mark Heraghty, has this to say about the company’s plans: “Organizations are craving some clarity and no-nonsense advice. Providing easy-to-use, simple cloud services that do exactly what they say they’ll do, really well, is a breath of fresh air. Most are already signed up to the benefits of the cloud, but constant jargon and complicated advice have created a real barrier to entry.”

Virgin is planning to unveil its VirtualPrivate Data Centre with the use of Web hosting provider Savvis’s facilities and hardware. In a report by the Financial Times, these services can be deployed in as little as a couple of hours after signing up.

Virgin is set to compete in this field against BT Group PLC and Cable & Wireless. The company has also just recently announced its new program to reward its customers for their loyalty.
