Vaizey still believes that UK will have best fibre broadband
Communications Minister Ed Vaizey has once again reiterated that the UK will have the best fibre optic broadband service in Europe within the next five years.

The demand for better, higher speed broadband has grown rapidly across the UK over recent years, with more and more people and businesses wanting to see improvements to broadband services. Broadband has now become an integral part of everyday life for many people and many businesses, and this has further fuelled the demand for higher speed, more reliable broadband services.
Two of the companies that are hoping to fulfil the demand for high speed broadband in the UK are Virgin Media, which has been providing fibre based broadband for years with increasingly faster speeds, and BT, which is in the throes of rolling out high speed fibre optic broadband across the UK.
The communications minister, Ed Vaizey, has now spoken out about the future of fibre optic broadband in the UK, stating once again that he expects the UK to have the best fibre optic broadband in Europe within the next five years. This comes after the coalition government pledged to put aside £530 million towards the rollout of fibre based broadband across the UK in its Spending Review earlier this year.
Vaizey also spoke about the role that the UK broadband giants BT and Virgin Media would play in the deployment of high speed broadband across the UK. He said that Virgin Media was aiming to make broadband speeds of up to 100Mbps available to 50 percent of homes over the next two years, and that BT was spending £2.5 billion on the rollout of fibre optic broadband to two thirds of property by 2015.
