UK fares poorly in broadband league tables
According to a recent report the UK has not fared too well in a recent study looking into the quality of broadband connections in forty two countries.
A recent Cisco study has revealed that the UK does not enjoy the same high quality broadband connections as many other countries. The study looked at broadband connections in forty two countries, and the results showed that the quality of connections in the UK was below average when compared to many other countries.
The purpose of the firm’s broadband quality study was to determine the ability of each of the countries to benefit from next generation web applications and services, and the study looked at broadband connection quality in countries Europe, North America, Brazil, Russia, India and China.
The higest quality broadband connections in Europe were found to be in Sweden and the Netherlands, according to the results of the survey. Over half of the forty two countries that were assessed were found to have broadband connections that were of a high enough quality to benefit from a range of next generation services and applications.
However, those that were found to be not up to scratch within Europe included the UK, Spain, and Italy. The highest overall broadband connection quality was found to be in Japan, which has embraced broadband advancements for some time.
One industry official said: “The broadband quality study was developed on the premise that the new generation of web applications will rely on a higher level of performance of broadband connections. Average download speeds are adequate for web browsing, e-mail and basic video downloading and streaming, but we are seeing more interactive applications, more user-generated content being uploaded and shared, and an increasing amount of high-quality video services becoming available.”
