The fight for broadband customers sees Orange raising the stakes
In an effort to win more customers the network service provider Orange is making a number of changes to its pricing plans and will now be offering users broadband connection speeds of up to 20Mbps.
In its last reported results Orange’s customer based had dropped below the 1 million mark and this meant that in the highly competitive market for fixed-line broadband services it had slowly been losing its market share.
In what many experts are seeing as the most aggressive move made by the company for quite a while in the fixed-line market, Orange has launched a new marketing campaign under the tagline “No More Speeding Fines” and have moved to increase the broadband connection speeds for customers using its network.
With much of its market share now being taken by network providers like BSkyB, the satellite-TV operator and TalkTalk, which is owned by Carphone Warehouse this latest move signifies that Orange is now looking to take back some of its lost share.
As well as offering its customers unlimited broadband download limits, obviously subject to the regular fair usage policy, Orange has also announce four new price plans, which range from £6.50 to £13.50 per month. The cheapest of these plans will be made available to its contract-based mobile phone customers as part of its current strategy to reduce the churn on its mobile phone services.
Although it is advertising speeds of up to 20Mbps the actual connection speeds will be given to them before they sign up for the 18 month contract according to the director of Broadband and Home for Orange, Asif Aziz, who also advised that for customer to connect to the faster broadband service there would be no premium charge.
He added “Irrespective of where you live, you will get the fastest speed your line can handle.”
