Target set for the fastest broadband in the UK by Cornwall
In order to improve services to its local business a member of the Cornwall council has advised that he is currently working towards bringing super-fast broadband services into the area.
In a recent interview with the Business Cornwall magazine the chief executive of Cornwall Council, Kevin Lavery announced that Cornwall could soon be getting some of the highest broadband connection speeds in the UK.
The initial plans by the council are to implement a high-speed broadband infrastructure throughout the area that will be mainly aimed at the businesses in the area and will be designed to greatly improve business efficiency and bring in a greater level of outside investment.
Mr Lavery advised “We’re in the procurement process now, so by the end of the year we will announce a preferred bidder to develop a superfast broadband network in Cornwall that will be the best in the UK…We’re talking about for larger companies a gigabyte of speed which is incredibly fast, which will put Cornwall in a great place to do internet business anywhere in the world.”
Mr Lavery spoke in the interview about a variety of different subjects that included the plans he currently has for the new Cornwall Development Company and how the council has been taking a “back seat” for far too long and must now focus on taking a much stronger leadership with the possible risk of the public sector soon facing what Mr Lavery calls the “mother of all spending squeezes.”
The plans announced by Mr Lavery are now becoming increasingly commonplace throughout the country, even in the midst of the current economic crisis, with more and more areas around the UK focusing on building and improving their telecommunications infrastructure in an effort to improve business efficiency and provide residents with a higher quality of service.
