According to a recent report switching broadband provider can make a big difference in the long run and could be well worth the hassle.

Like any other service switching your broadband provider can prove very beneficial financially, as the cost of service between different providers can vary quite widely. Most consumers would be fully prepared to switch their gas, electricity, water, and other services in order to save money, but is seems that the situation can be different when it comes to broadband.

Although most consumers are well aware that there can be a big difference in the cost of broadband access based on the provider and type of package that you choose many are too nervous to switch due to the disruption that can be caused from switching from one broadband provider to another. This often results in many people paying way over the odds on their broadband bills.

One industry official has stated that whilst switching broadband providers can prove to be troublesome and time consuming initially it can prove to be a real benefit in the long run. He also added that whilst some people may think that switching broadband providers is a difficult process it has in fact been made easier over recent months due to various Ofcom regulations.

He stated: “Internet Service Providers must provide a MAC code (a numerical code like a serial number) which can be passed to the new provider and is designed to make switching from one provider to another as painless as possible.” He added: “Even with the best planning in the world you can expect one or two day’s downtime, but aren’t the cost savings worth the hassle in the long term?”
