Survey for better broadband in Suffolk

Jan 3 2012 / By Hazel Chua

Before an Internet service provider rolls out certain services or decides to upgrade the existing facilities in an area, they usually conduct a survey first. The reason for this is simple: these surveys allow the provider to have a direct line of communication with the users who will be the ones benefiting from the services and changes to be made, firsthand.

Officers from the South Gloucestershire Council had already decided to conduct a survey to obtain information with regards to the demand for high-speed broadband connections in the area.

The Central Bedfordshire Council has also gone through the same route in order to find out what residents and businesses want from their Internet capacity.

Now it’s time for the residents and web users in Suffolk to let their voices be heard. Establishments in Suffolk are being called to participate in the Better Broadband for Suffolk campaign by taking part and sending in their responses to the survey.

Approximately 500 businesses have already signed on to participate in the campaign. The project has already been able to obtain the necessary public funding for the project, which includes £10 million in funding from Suffolk County Council and £11 million from the UK government.

The results from these surveys are expected to help the county councils to draft up broadband programmes that will be able to satisfy the primary requirements and broadband needs of the users in their respective areas of jurisfiction.
