Even if you haven’t signed on to receive email newsletters or updates from various sites on the web, you might still receive the occasional spam message or two at least once a week. We all know what a pain spam can be. Not the kind of spam which comes in a can though, since this obviously isn’t a pain but a treat, at least for those who like it. Rather, it’s the spam which contains nonsense text with the end goal of extorting money or trying to sell you a piece of software that you don’t really need.

In fact, a study by the ICO has found that spam texts can be a bit depressing. The report revealed that over 95% of users who receive spam texts were either concerned and distressed or inconvenienced when they received spam texts. I’m not very certain how these figures can predict what people might feel when they receive spam email messages, although I’m pretty sure they won’t be happy.

For one, Sure certainly isn’t. The Internet service provider has set up a block on external access to Guernsey email accounts in an effort to put an end to spam attacks. Sure announced that any user trying to access their ‘@cwgsy.net’ from a non-Sure broadband connection would be unable to log in for around four days.

Sure explained that they have come under attack from an excessive amount of of spam emails from a source outside of the island. By blocking external access, Sure hopes to provide more protection to the majority of its customers, although at the expense of others in the form of the disruption in access.
