Slow broadband speeds experienced by Barnet
Recently released figures have shown that whilst broadband customers in London’s Croydon are receiving average broadband speeds of 7.34Mbps those in Barnet are receiving far slower speeds, resulting in resident of Barnet getting the slowest broadband speeds in London.
The results of a recent study have shown that consumers in Barnet are receiving the slowest broadband speeds in London, with the average speed in the area being just 4.26Mbps. In contrast consumers in the Croydon area of London are receiving far faster average broadband speeds of around 7.34Mbps, reflecting a large divide in broadband speeds between consumers and businesses in the two areas of London.
According to recent research the average broadband speed for London as a whole is 6.36Mbps, with the average speed for North London coming in at 6.83Mbps. The average speed for Barnet comes in at much lower than these figures, which could be causing a lot of frustration and disappointment for both residents and businesses in the Barnet area, who may be having to cope with broadband speeds that are not adequate for their needs.
One industry official stated: “Nowadays everyone expects their broadband to be superfast so they can watch TV online and download the latest music and movies. The data from our speed test shows that in fact London is not as fast as you would expect. It wouldn’t be surprising if Londoners started complaining to their ISPs.”
For consumers in the UK, and in particular for businesses, the average broadband speeds that they are able to achieve can make a huge different to what they are able to do in terms of the Internet, but average speeds that can be achieved can depend on a number of factors, ranging from the broadband package that you choose to how far away you are from the nearest telephone exchange.
