Silver Surfers’ Day helps older generation get to grips with technology
The ninth annual Silver Surfers’ Day is taking place in the UK on 21st may, and the aim of the day is to help the older generation to get to grips with technology.
The widespread availability of broadband services has seen a rising number of older people start making use of the Internet, and these days there are plenty of people aged fifty and over who are able to happily surf the Internet and enjoy all that it has to offer. However, there are also many older people that are missing out on these benefits because they have failed to get to grips with this sort of technology for one reason or another.
Being able to use broadband and internet services effectively can bring many benefits to older people, from providing them with entertainment and improved means of communication to providing them with information, news, and access to savings, services, and more. Silver Surfer’s Day hopes to encourage this amongst older people by training them to use the internet and broadband services more effectively.
The event is arranged by Digital Unite in conjunction with the UK’s communications regulator Ofcom, and it is thought that thousands of events will be taking place across the UK as part of the day. The events will take place at a number of venues, including online centres and libraries, schools, community centres, and more. Over 50s that have little or no experience of using the Internet will be able to get valuable training when they attend one of these events.
The official ambassador for Silver Surfer’s Day is Sir Terry Wogan, and even Dame Vera Lynn is supporting the event.
