Satisfaction levels with broadband at lowest in four years

It has been revealed recently that consumer satisfaction levels when it comes to broadband services have plunged to their lowest in four years

These days there are many providers of broadband and Internet services not to mention a huge range of plans and packages to suit a range of circumstances, needs, preferences, and pockets. It is therefore only natural to assume that consumers would be able to find the perfect deal and provider that would provide them with quality broadband and internet services, value for money, and a high level of overall satisfaction.

However, a recent survey has revealed that consumer satisfaction levels when it comes to broadband services have plunged to their lowest in the last four years. The survey involved polling ten thousand consumers about their satisfaction levels with their broadband providers. More than one third of those taking part in the study said that they were not satisfied with the service they received. This was an increase from less than thirty percent last year and from just over sixteen percent in 2008.

Many people are not satisfied with the speeds that they receive, and Ofcom has recently revealed that the actual speeds that broadband consumers are receiving are less than half the average advertised broadband speeds. One official involved in the study stated: “Broadband providers have marketed their services on speed-led messaging in their efforts to out-do each other, but the speeds experienced by the end user simply aren’t living up to these promises.”

He added: “Since 2007, we have been pushing for ‘typical speeds’ to be made the gold standard for speed measurement, in the same way that banks use ‘typical APR’ percentages. Until this happens, consumers will continue to be misled by broadband providers’ claims of what speeds are technically feasible compared to what they will receive in the real world – and resentment over this issue will continue to grow.”
