Remote Yorkshire villages to get access to high speed broadband

It has been reported that two remote villages in North Yorkshire are going to be benefit from a new project that will see them gaining access to high speed broadband services.

For many people and businesses being able to access broadband services that offer adequate speeds can be a real problem, but for those that live in more remote and rural areas trying to get access to the Internet can be a real nightmare, with a huge digital divide that has already caused much controversy over the past couple of years.

However, it has been reported that two remote villages in the North Yorkshire area are set to get access to high speed broadband as a result of a new project that has been launched. Residents will be able to enjoy speeds of up to 10Mbps even in these remote areas as a result of the project, which is being run by NYnet and Yorkshire-based company NextGenUs UK CIC.

NYnet was formed by Yorkshire Forward and North Yorkshire County Council, and received funding from the European Union. It has collaborated with NextGenUs UK CIC and Beeline Broadband to provide residents and businesses in the area with download and upload speeds of up to 10Mbps.

A number of residents have spoken out about the huge difference that the increased speeds are making to the area, and an official from NYnet said: “We are delighted NYnet is able to make such a difference to people’s lives. North Yorkshire is England’s largest county and has some of the most remote villages in England. Newton-on-Rawcliffe and Stape is the first pilot project in a series of community broadband initiatives that NYnet plan to introduce in rural villages throughout North Yorkshire.”
