It has been claimed in recent reports that the launch of Project canvas, which is the new digital television service, could see demand for fixed line broadband in the UK increase even further.

The demand for fixed line broadband in the UK has soared over recent years, with many households wanting to get broadband connections so that they can enjoy the wide range of activities, entertainment, and resources that come with the Internet. Many officials now think that the demand for fixed line broadband in the UK could increase even further as a result of the launch of a new digital television service.

It is thought that the launch of Project Canvas could lead to a further rise in demand for fixed line broadband services, and could appeal to a whopping six million homes that do not currently pay for programming content. A number of recent reports have suggested that internet based television is becoming more and more popular, and the research into the popularity of Project Canvas backs up this data.

The research was carried out by Morgan Stanley, and officials from the company said that more and more people would most likely be keen to get fixed line broadband access, which would see Internet service providers such as Talk Talk and BT being able to further boost their subscriber numbers.

The end of March should see a final decision being made with regards to the launch of the service. This means that the service could be available to households either by the end of this year or in the early part of next year. Demand for fixed line broadband could be further boosted by the rollout of higher speed broadband over the next few years.
