Price of broadband is falling in the UK

A recent report from the European Commission has shown that the price of broadband deals and mobile calls in the UK and across Europe has been falling.

The cost of broadband deals in the UK has fallen steadily over recent years, and many people have found that getting broadband access has become easier and more affordable due to the increased choice available as a result of the rising number of providers, and due to the lower prices on offer on broadband deals, stemming from increased competition amongst providers.

A new survey has revealed that the price of both broadband Internet access and the cost of mobile phone calls are falling for consumers in the UK, as well as for consumers in other European destination. The report has come from the European Commission, and officials from the EU said that despite the global credit crunch the broadband and telecoms sector in the UK and Europe was still expanding.

The Telecom’s Commissioner from the European Commission, Viviane Reding, stated: “Europe is the continent of mobile communications, with more and more people using mobile phones and mobile broadband services.” She also said: “Despite the global economic crisis, European consumers communicate more than ever with their phones and via the Internet. This is good news for a sector that can help Europe defy the downturn.”

Whilst the price of broadband access is falling, based on the EU report, the cost of packages from different providers can still vary quite signficantly, so it is important for consumers that are looking for an affordable broabdand deal to compare different packages from a number of different providers before making any commitment.
