Plans for 100 percent superfast broadband in Surrey move forward
According to reports plans are now underway with regards to ensuring that Surrey is able to enjoy one hundred percent superfast broadband by 2013.

It has been reported that plans have been moving forward to ensure that Surrey enjoys having one hundred percent superfast broadband by 2013, which will be hugely beneficial for both residents and businesses in the area. A tendering process has been started now, with the county council inviting private firms to bid on making high speed broadband accessible for homes and businesses that will not be covered by the BT high speed broadband rollout.
BT is installing its superfast broadband network over the next few years but around twenty percent of Surrey, especially rural parts of the county, will not be covered by the BT service. By inviting private firms to bid the council can ensure that all parts of the county are covered one way or the other, which means no residents or businesses will have to lose out.
Council leader Dr Andrew Povey said: “Fast and reliable internet access is vital for business and is central to our daily lives. Everyone should have access to this essential tool and we are committed to making sure that those in rural areas and other parts of Surrey where service is patchy are not left behind.”
He added: “Poor broadband coverage and slow speeds hold back local businesses and put rural communities at a disadvantage. Unless we step in, up to 20% of Surrey won’t feel the huge benefits of high-speed broadband in the near future.”
