Over half of UK consumers happy with broadband speeds
Despite concerns being raised about UK broadband speeds lagging behind many other countries a recent survey has suggested that over half of consumers in the UK are happy with their broadband speeds.
Over recent months a number of reports have raised concerns about the broadband speeds in the UK, and how the nation is lagging behind many other countries when it comes to broadband speeds. However, one broadband industry group has carried out a survey recently, and the results indicated that over half of UK consumers were happy with the broadband speed that they were receiving.
The monthly survey indicated that around fifty six percent of broadband users were happy with the speed that they were getting from their Internet Service Provider. However, this also meant that close to half of consumers were not happy with the broadband speeds they were getting. Officials have said that this indicates that broadband speeds in the UK are not the worst, but at the same time there is more that needs to be done to address issues relating to speed.
It is thought that many of those that were happy with their broadband speeds were heavy Internet users, with around forty one percent of those responding to the survey stating that the downloaded at least 30GB of data a month. Fifty nine percent of those that were polled said that they had a broadband package with up to speeds of 8Mbps.
There has been some concern raised by the communications regulator, Ofcom, with regards to the actual speeds that consumers are receiving compared to the speeds that are being advertised by broadband providers. This is something that Ofcom has been trying to crack down on with the launch of a voluntary code of practice, which could be replaced with a mandatory one if providers to not comply.
