Openreach Green Cabinet to be set up at Devizes Market Place
Planning officers at Wiltshire Council have raised no objections to a telecommunications box in Devizes Market Place. The 1.35m-high box will be outside the Pelican Inn and near to a bus shelter.
Openreach, a BT Group Company, is leading the deployment of BT’s £2.5 billion investment to bring superfast broadband to two thirds of UK premises by 2014.
The green cabinet owned by Openreach will help provide superfast broadband connectivity.
The broadband box was originally meant to be installed along the side of the Corn Exchange. But that plan did not work out because a 1.2 meter clearance could not be obtained as required by the regulations. The new location is closer to an existing green cabinet and will help to reduce the amount of copper cabling within the system.
In some parts of the world, people object to what they perceive as an eyesore that will actually provide them with the beneficial services they demand. See what they did in San Francisco, California in the United States.
