Online banking could help consumers to improve money management

According to a recent report a rising number of consumers in the UK could find it easier to manage their finances by using online banking services.

With the rising number of households that now have access to broadband services there has been an increase in the number of people that use the Internet for a wide range of purposes, from shopping and entertainment to catching up with friends and conducting their financial issues. It has now been suggested in a recent report that consumers that use their broadband services to conduct Internet banking could find it easier to manage their finances.

Whilst there has been an increase in the number of people that are using Internet banking over recent years, with some signing up to Internet only banks such as First Direct, there are also some consumers that are wary about conducting their finances online due to the risk of fraud or identity theft. However, online banks use safety measures to protect consumer details, and officials believe that consumers should have more confidence in the online banking system.

The report stated that with online banking consumers could check their account balance and transactions as often as they liked and at any time of the day or night, making it easier to check for any suspicious activity or to keep track of payments going in and out of the account. Online banking offers a far higher degree of convenience for the consumer as well, giving them more control over their own account and finances.

One online banking customer said: “I was nervous about online banking at first, but I’ve been doing it for a few years now and never had a problem. It’s so much easier being able to manage all of my finances from my PC at home rather than ringing around or queuing at the branch.”
