An industry official has recently spoken out about the importance of financial support when it comes to the roll out of higher speed broadband. One expert has said that the only way that higher speed fibre based broadband can be made available to the masses is through the provision if financial support.

The industry technology expert said that in order for higher speed broadband to be rolled out across the UK more financial support is necessary. According to one industry expert from the group Intellect only sixty percent of the UK will have access to high speed broadband unless some financial support is made available.

An official from Intellect said that financial intervention is crucial in the rollout of high speed broadband in the UK. He said: “We are firm, therefore, that to ensure that fast broadband is available to as many people as possible, some form of support will be needed.”

He also said that there was flexibility amongst industry groups with regards to how this funding would be achieved, and commented on the controversial broadband tax, stating that this was one of the ways in which the money necessary for the rollout could be achieved. In the meantime the broadband tax continues to be at the centre of controversy, as many people believe that it will mean that lower income families have to give up their broadband service because they cannot afford the extra costs.
