Ofcom slates fixed and mobile broadband
The UK’s communications regulator, Ofcom, has recently slated both fixed line and mobile broadband services in the UK, stating that improvements need to be made on both.

In a recent report the communications regulator in the UK, Ofcom, has slated both fixed line and mobile broadband services in the UK, stating that they are lacking in speed compared to other nations. Ofcom said that steps need to be taken to improve both broadband services in the UK.
The regulator expressed its concerns in its annual International Communications Market report, and said that in the UK less than one percent of homes had access to super-fast broadband whereas in Japan over a third of homes had access to super-fast broadband services.
Concern was raised over the slow speed of mobile broadband services in the UK, but operators have said that this is down to the allocation of spectrum for the rollout of 4G services, which would enable mobile broadband users to access the next generation of network with faster speeds and greater reliability than the current 3G networks.
Commenting on the findings the Chief Executive of Ofcom, Ed Richards, said that with regards to fixed line services there were still many challenges that had to be met. He said: “We still have challenges on super-fast broadband take-up. We are not where we want to be but plans are well under way and, if they are fully met, will take us to a strong position.”
Another recent report claimed that when it came to value for money with broadband services amongst different nations the UK came in at position twenty four, with the top spot being taken by Hong Kong.

The UK lagging behind other countires when it comes to broadband speed and mobile broadband speeds?? No suprise there then. I think we all know broadband speed in the UK is not what it should be but I do get a little bored of hearing the samething repeated again and again without any real action being taken.
