Ofcom releases figures over UK broadband connections
According to the UK communications regulator, Ofcom, there were around eighteen million broadband connections across the UK at the end of last year.
Broadband is something that has become invaluable to millions of people across the UK, and is now used on a daily basis by both casual internet users and business users. For many people the thought of life without broadband is unimaginable, with many now relying on this technology for everything from their home lives and entertainment to their work and more.
The UK’s communications regulator, Ofcom, has recently released new figures relating to the level of broadband penetration in the UK at the end of last year. The Ofcom figures showed that at the end of last year there were over eighteen million broadband connections in the UK. This has shown how broadband penetration and popularity continues to grow.
The figures have come from the Telecommunications Market Data Tables report from Ofcom, and they were made up of both residential and business broadband connections. The figures showed that there were 18.2 million broadband connections in place at the end of last year, which reflected an increase of three hundred and seventeen thousand more than in the third quarter of the year.
BT was confirmed as the biggest residential and business supplier of broadband in the final quarter of last year. The communication giant’s market share stood at nearly twenty seven percent during the quarter. The release of the figures follows recent reports that indicated consumers in the UK were becoming far more savvy and knowledgeable when it came to security issues relating to IT and the Internet.
