North Yorkshire firms asked to contribute towards broadband

It has been revealed that private sector firms in the North Yorkshire area have been asked to contribute towards a fund that is aimed at bringing faster broadband to the region.

There are many businesses across North Yorkshire that would benefit hugely from being able to access faster broadband services, which would help to improve productivity and success for businesses. It has now emerged that private sector firms across the area are being asked to contribute to a fund that is designed to provide both businesses and households in the area with high speed broadband.

The call for private sector funding is being made by the North Yorkshire County Council company that is responsible for bringing faster broadband to the area, NYnet. The company is set to call on the private sector to either match or exceed the amount of money that it has managed to raise through government funding so far, which comes to around £30 million.

Having this additional funding from the private sector would make a huge different to the high speed broadband services in the area and would enable both businesses and households to benefit from the higher quality and faster speed broadband services that would come from increased funding.

An official from NYnet said: “We will tell the telecommunications industry that we have a lump of money and we want from them additional investment. Those who come up with the best investment and the best technology to best serve the interests of rural North Yorkshire will get the contract.”
