Thanks to technology such as broadband services more and more people in Wales have been able to enjoy a potentially lucrative career by running a home based business, and a recent report has shown that these businesses are making impressive profits.

Over recent years a rising number of consumers have been able to enjoy the flexibility and convenience of being able to work from home, which has proven ideal for those that need to base their work life around their family or other commitments, and those that simply want to enjoy the benefits of being their own boss.

Amongst the technologies that have enabled people to enjoy this luxury is the increasing availability of higher speed broadband services, which have been key to many home businesses and enterprises. A recent report has shown that people in Wales have really embraced the opportunity to run a business from home, with home based enterprises said to have generated around nine billion pounds.

According to the report the two main home based business hotspots in Wales were said to be Swansea and Cardiff. Moreover, nearly ninety percent of home businesses in Wales said that they expected revenues to increase next year despite the difficult year that we have all had through the recession this year.

An official involved in the report stated: “This report confirms that more people are starting up at home on account of lower costs and wanting a better work/life balance. Basing a business at home is certainly no obstacle to growth as home business owners are making the most of technology to outsource work and collaborate with other talented minds. It’s a most modern way to grow, yet it is not recognised in business support programmes and policy.”
