Next generation broadband rollout to be a combined effort

December 1st, 2009 by Richard

The UK’s communications regulator Ofcom has stated recently that the establishment of next generation broadband across the UK will require combined effort between the government, Internet service providers, and consumers themselves.

The rollout of next generation broadband is being eagerly awaited by many residents and businesses who are desperately hoping for more effective broadband services. However, whilst plans to rollout next generation broadband services across the UK formed a major part of this year’s Digital Britain Report the plans have come across various teething problems ranging from opposition from other political parties to problems with getting adequate investment.

The UK’s communications regulator has recently spoken out about the roll out of next generation broadband, and has stated that the successful rollout and establishment of next generation broadband networks in the UK will be dependent on combined efforts from the government, Internet providers, and consumers in the UK.

The regulator also said that there were no firm plans as yet with regards to how next generation broadband services would be regulated, but in the meantime Ofcom would do all that it could to encourage investment into next generation broadband. The regulator added that the advanced networks would offer huge benefits to consumers and businesses, and would work wonders for the economy in the UK.

Speaking at a recent eForum one official from Ofcom stated that next generation broadband networks could potentially have a world changing effect, and could affect people in business, personal users, and the economy as a whole. Speaking of the technology he said that it was “…potentially a world-changing issue and possibly something which is going to have a dramatic effect on both our personal lives and our economic lives.”
