Latest report are indicating that the deployment of a next generation broadband infrastructure would not only bring the country in line with the rest of the world but would mean the chance to create new jobs even in the face of the current deteriorating economy.

A boost in jobs throughout the UK could be provided by the building of a world class next generation broadband network, even during the current economic climate claims the latest official report.

In order to capitalise on new business opportunities the creation of a universal high-speed broadband network could be an important tool that would allow many people to re-skill says the Cabinet Office white paper named New Opportunities – Fair Chances for the Future.

As the internet has grown as a business device it has meant that the location of every part of the production process does not necessarily need to be in the same place any more says the paper. The paper has also predicted that more opportunities could be brought in “the knowledge-intensive areas in which we excel, such as research and development, specialist manufacturing and business services”.

The paper goes on to explain “It also means that many of the high-skilled jobs needed to deliver services to the emerging global middle class can occur anywhere in the world, creating further opportunities for UK workers in markets and industries in which we are already strong. Grasping these opportunities depends on having a truly nationwide, high-quality business and technological infrastructure that facilitates international working, including a world-class broadband network.”

The latest plans for the rollout of a universal broadband network throughout the UK are expected to be outlined when the upcoming interim Digital Britain report is release by Lord Carter, the Communications Minister.
