Officials from Newham Council in London have welcomed the news that the council is to be amongst the first London boroughs to benefits from BT plans to launch high speed broadband services.
Officials from Newham Council have recently expressed how pleased they are to discover that they could soon be getting their hands on high speed broadband. Newham Council has discovered that it is amongst the first boroughs in London to benefit from plans from communications giant BT to roll out high speed internet in the area.
BT has already announced that it is planning to serve eighty seven percent of homes and businesses in London through exchanges that are equipped to provide high speed broadband by the spring of 2011. The news that the area served by Newham Council will be amongst the first to benefit from access to high speed broadband has been welcomed by residents and businesses in the area.
The local mayor stated: “I’m pleased that our residents and businesses will be among the first to reap the benefits of BT’s super-fast broadband access. We’re already the best connected borough in terms of transport infrastructure, now we’ll be the best connected in others ways too.”
He added: “Having a superfast digital infrastructure puts us in a strong position to maximise the once-in-a-lifetime legacy benefits that hosting the 2012 Games presents us with. It puts our homes at the forefront of digital technology, creates new learning opportunities for our young people and makes the area more attractive to businesses looking to invest here as London continues to move east.”
