New P-Series 3G netbook launched by Sony
A brand new range of ultra-portable Vaio P-Series notebooks that are little bigger than an office envelope yet offer embedded 3G technology and high-speed broadband access have recently been announce by Sony.
In an ever expanding netbook market, Sony’s new P-Series range is its entry. Weighing in at 618g the new P-Series is much lighter and more compact than rival laptops like the Best Buy Acer Aspire One that weighs 990g. All of these new laptops, which are to be sold as stylish and sleek alternatives to current netbooks come with embedded 3G and the smallest in its range is the lightest netbook to be launched to date.
The features that are offered with this range do, however, come at a fairly heavy price with the lowest starting at around £849, which is quite a leap when compared to some netbooks that cost under £300, like the linux-based Asus Eee PC 900 netbook.
There are currently two choices of operating systems for users to pick, with the first being Windows Vista and for those that are just looking to access the internet of perform other key functions there is the XrossMediaBar which for those who either own or have used the latest BRAVIA™ TVs or the Sony PSP will find to be a familiar user interface.
Amongst some of the many features with these devices is an 8” display that offers a 1600 x 768 screen resolution and has a weight of under 640g. To enable multiple windows to be distributed equally and automatically across the screen there is a helpful ‘resize’ button located just beneath the keyboard.
From February 2009 the new range of Sony laptop will be made available to France, UK, Russia, Germany, Spain and Italy with release dates for other countries to be confirmed.
