Due to a requirement for bigger premises the Haydock-based i3 group, which specialises in the lay of low-cost high speed fibre optic network cabling using the existing sewer network, has advised that it will be creating 130 new jobs in the area.

The premises that the firm will be moving to is a larger 120 000 sq ft unit but the company will still remain at The parks, which is a large business park located near to the Haydock racecourse. Over the next 12 months the group have said that the number of staff that they will require at this new site will rise from the current 70 to around 200 employees.

Engineering and commercial management will be the main roles created by this new move to a larger site. The rollout of fibre networks to 10 cities and towns throughout the country will be carried out by Fibrecity, one of the company’s divisions, offering users connection speeds of up to 100Mbps for broadband services that are paid-for and 40Mbps for health service news and community TV to be provided by local councils.

Elfeld Thomas, the CEO of i3 group said “The Government is backing the move towards a national super fast communications network and believes this to be key to the economic recovery and to enable British businesses to compete on the world stage. This vision is being reflected in our forward order book, which is why our expansion is necessary.”

In order to improve both the infrastructure and the overall broadband connectivity in many of the developing nations he as also said that the company will be looking towards international partner to provide more aid.

Enterprise ventures original made funding investment in the company in 2006 and 2007 but in January the i3 group management team bought back its stake.
