New fight for broadband access improvements
In the latest attempt to get rid of blackspots or notspots that are causing huge problems for businesses and homes in the more rural parts of the country, residents of East Anglia have been called to give their support.
Many areas of the country that have little or no broadband access like Suffolk, Cambridgeshire and Norfolk are becoming increasingly upset with the fact that for them there are huge problems with staying in touch with relatives, getting the information they need and even running their businesses. These people have now been asked to “tell us your horror stories” by Country Land and Business Association (CLA)
As part of its latest campaign to improve the levels of coverage in these areas that have been label ‘notspots’ it is looking to gather information and evidence from people living in these areas.
It was found recently that a survey carried out following a promise from the government to provide every home in the UK with a minimum of 2Mbps by 2012 as many as 3 million homes throughout the country in both rural and suburban areas cannot currently get these kinds of speeds.
There has recently been a lot of support offered to improve broadband services from a number of organisations across the country although one CEO said that some areas could be “left in a technological slow-lane” if things failed to improve.
Chris Allhusen, the chairman for the Norfolk CLA said “The broadband situation is unacceptable. The CLA is very concerned that the rural economy and people living in a rural environment are being disadvantaged. We want to know what ministers and BT are going to do about it. At both the Suffolk Show and the Royal Norfolk Show we want people to tell us about their broadband problems. We will use the information to continue to lobby the government and BT.”
