Nearly two hundred local businesses back bid for broadband in Norfolk

It has been reported that close to two hundred local businesses in the Norfolk area are backing the council’s bid for funding to bring faster broadband to the area.

Faster broadband is something that all local authorities are keen to get for their areas, as this is something that will boost local economies as well as helping residents and businesses in the area. Amongst the many local authorities that have made a bid for funding for faster broadband for their areas through the Broadband Delivery UK cash pot is Norfolk.

It has been revealed that nearly two hundred businesses have now backed the local council’s bid for funding for faster broadband in the space of just two weeks. The level of backing was revealed at a recent meeting at County Hall. The campaign for better broadband has been run by the county council and the EDP.

The council is bidding alongside twenty four other local authorities for funding for faster broadband in the area. They are all seeking a slice of the £530 million funding pot to help them with their broadband projects. For Norfolk this is considered particularly important because of the number of so called ‘no spots’ in the area where the broadband access is very poor or non-existent.

Council officials have said that it will most likely be around the end of May by the time they find out whether they have been successful with their bid for some of the Broadband Delivery UK money. If the bid is successful the local economy could be boosted by around £400 million over the next ten years according to reports.
