Nearly fifty percent of users do not know their data limits

It has been reported recently that nearly have of broadband users in the UK do not know what their download limits are, and risk being charged or disconnected.

A number of reports have come out recently expressing concern over the lack of awareness amongst many broadband users when it comes to their broadband download limits. Another report has now emerged claiming that nearly fifty percent of broadband customers do not know their download limits, and that this could result in them being charged or disconnected.

Many people that take out broadband services opt for the cheaper packages, which are often those that come with capped download limits. However, a lot of these customers then fail to really look into the download limits, and therefore could end up failing to adhere to them.

There are also many people that opt for the more costly unlimited packages from broadband providers, but fail to realise that there are fair usage limits in place, which could again result in them exceeding their limits and being charged or disconnected as a result of this.

One official said: ‘It seems ludicrous that unlimited broadband does not mean what is says on the tin. The term unlimited should be banned on broadband adverts unless, like Sky, the service really has no limits. The best advice for customers is to check their fair usage policy and if in doubt, ask their provider to clarify the acceptable usage. For those choosing a new service, it’s more important than ever to pick one that can cope with the demands being placed on it both now and in the future.’
