More government services to be pushed online
With plans for universal high speed broadband having moved forward the Prime Minister Gordon Brown has said that many government services are to be moved online over the coming years.
In a recent letter to the Daily Telegraph the Prime Minister Gordon Brown recently outlined the benefits of high speed broadband, urging the public to support the decision of the government to invest in higher speed broadband, which he said would help the nation to prosper and would boast multiple benefits for the economy and for society as a whole.
Brown also confirmed that with plans for higher speed broadband continuing to move forward a rising number of government services will be moved online. He said that over the next five years the government would be moving a range of transactional services online, and that this would benefit consumers and would help to save money. In fact, according to the Prime Minister around one billion pounds could be saved by shifting various services onto the internet.
In his letter the Prime Minister said: “Evidence from local authorities indicates that, on average, carrying out a telephone transaction online can save £3.30 and switching from paper and mail to online can save £12 per time. In all, it is estimated that shifting significant transactions in this way could save £1bn.”
He also continued to push the benefits of high speed broadband access, adding: “Imagine if you could hold a consultation with your GP over the internet in real time or easily access your office computer network from home or hold two-way video conferences. These are the very real possibilities that super-fast broadband could offer within just a few years.”
