The results of a recent survey have shown that the number of broadband users spending more time online in the UK has hit an all time high

Many of the households in the UK probably wouldn’t know what to do if they lost their broadband connection on a long term basis, as many have become so reliant on the Internet to do everything from read up on the latest news to do their shopping, keep in touch with friends, work, or enjoy the entertainment value of the Internet.

In fact, the results of a recent survey have shown that broadband customers are spending more time on the Internet than ever these days, using the technology as part of their everyday lives. Broadband users have enjoyed benefiting from the Internet for years, and the figures suggest that an increasing number of users are becoming more reliant on the Internet for their needs.

The research showed that around fifty two percent of broadband users were spending over twenty four hours online each week, which equates to an average three and a half hours per day. Not all officials think that this is necessarily a good thing, as despite the benefits that the Internet offers some officials think that some people are spending too much time in the virtual world rather that in the real one.

However, on industry officials said that the Internet could be use both productively and as a source of entertainment within the home. He said: “Broadband Internet access has finally become an established form of both entertainment and productivity in the home.”

He added: “With growing consumer confidence and experience allowing people to make better use of their Internet connections than ever before. It’s therefore natural that we should see a rise in the amount of time people spend online, something that can only increase as faster next generation broadband services begin to surface.”
