Many younger people want file sharing to be legal
It has been reported that, whilst the subject of broadband users file sharing has become a highly controversial one, many younger people believe that this activity should be legal.
As most people know there has been a lot of controversy over illegal file sharing over recent months, with the entertainment industry complaining that this is a practice that is costing them a fortune in lost revenues and the government putting forward plans to put an end to illegal file sharing through a range of proposed measures that would penalise those that were found to be engaging in this activity.
However, these plans have raised concerns with many people and groups, including Internet service providers and consumer campaign groups. A recent survey also showed that younger consumers are unhappy about the measures that are being taken with regards to so called illegal file sharing amongst broadband users, and many of the people in the younger age bracket believe that file sharing should be made legal.
The study was carried out as part of the Children’s Media Literacy Audit from UK communications regulator Ofcom and the results showed that a massive forty four percent of consumers aged between twelve and fifteen years thought that downloading music and movies for free should be made legal. Thirty eight percent of people in this age group agreed that the practice should be illegal, and a further eighteen percent said that they had no particular view on the matter.
Officials believe that the results of the survey show that young Brits who will become the future broadband users of tomorrow in the UK are looking for alternative models and solutions when it comes to being able to access entertainment.
