Many will switch from copper wire broadband to fibre based services

According to industry officials the middle of this decade will see many people moving from copper wire broadband to fibre optic broadband, as the technology becomes more accessible and more affordable.

Just a decade ago most people had never heard of broadband, and this is something that is hard to imagine these days, when so many homes and businesses have become reliant on this technology. Those that did have internet access were getting online via their dial up connections, and whilst these were slow, frustrating, and time consuming most people did not know any better and therefore thought that the technology was fine for them.

However, as broadband services become more widely available and more affordable people started to switch from dial up to broadband, and this is when they realised just what they had been missing out on, as they suddenly had a continuous connection, faster speeds, and uninterrupted service. Since that time broadband has become something of another utility for many households.

It has now been claimed by a broadband industry group that the same thing is likely to happen with fibre based broadband around the middle of this decade. Fibre services are now already being rolled out by a number of Internet Providers, and have been available through Virgin Media for some time.

As fibre based broadband becomes more and more accessible and more affordable a rising number of people will start to switch from their copper wire broadband to fibre optic broadband, which is faster and more efficient. In fact, a recent report predicts that there will be twelve million fibre based broadband connections in the UK by 2016.
