Many underground stations being kitted out with WiFi
It has been reported that many of the stations of the London Underground are being kitted out with WiFi access in preparation for the London Olympics next year.

Over the coming eighteen months London is set to see a flood of international visitors descending upon the city, many of who will come with internet enabled devices that that they will want to use whilst over here. With mobile broadband and Internet services having become so popular authorities are having to take action to ensure that the access is as widespread as possible for this influx.
The Royal Wedding is one of the events that will see many people descend upon London from all around the world. However, with the Royal Wedding only weeks away there is not enough time to get anything sorted out in time for this. However, the Olympic Games in 2012 will bring a huge amount of people to the city from all around the globe, and city officials are hoping that increased access will be sorted by then.
As part of the improved WiFi access plans for the London Olympic Games nearly fifty percent of the London Underground stations are to be kitted out with WiFi access for visitors and locals to use. A six month test last year with hotspots being brought to the Northern and Bakerloo line platforms gave consumers an idea of the benefits of this type of access.
With the test having been dubbed successful there are now plans to roll out the WiFi access to nearly half of the London Underground stations in time for the Olympic Games next year. The winner of the contract to carry out the work is to be announced at the end of this year.
