Many kids have no access to home computer

It has been reported that many children across the UK still have no access to a home computer and still have no Internet access, which puts them at a disadvantage compared to other children who do have this access

For many children across the UK having access to a home computer and Internet services is taken for granted, as they have never had to be without these services. However, a recent report has revealed that there are many kids in the UK who do not have access to a computer at home, and many others who do not have any internet connection.

Overall there are several million children that either have no access to a computer at home or have no internet access, and this is causing a concern for some authorities who believe that these kids are at a disadvantage compared to those that do have internet access because they do not have the same resources and opportunities when it comes to things such as education and socialising.

According to the E-Learning Foundation children from poorer backgrounds are more than twice less likely to have access to technology such as the Internet than the kids that come from better off backgrounds. Whilst officials have expressed the importance of having a computer and internet access at home for kids for their educational needs the government did not respond to the results of the study.

However, one official from the E-Learning Foundation said: “With so many children swamped with gifts from family and friends over the Christmas period it is important we reflect on the fact that millions of children live in poverty in this country.”

Do you believe all kids need access to home computers and internet? Let us know with your comments?
