Many find switching broadband provider is too much hassle

It has been found by the communications regulator Ofcom that nearly fifty percent of consumers believe that it is too much hassle to switch broadband providers.

The world of broadband has become hugely competitive over the years, and as a result of the various special deals, packages, and offers that broadband providers now make available consumers are able to enjoy big savings on the cost of their broadband services. However, worryingly many people miss out on these savings because they believe that switching broadband provider is too much hassle.

Officials from the communications regulator Ofcom has recently conducted research showing that nearly fifty percent of consumers in the UK believe that switching broadband providers is too much hassle. As a result of this information Ofcom is looking at ways in which the new provider can take the lead on making the switch so that consumers are not put off from switching their broadband or landline provider.

Ofcom is said to have started a consultation on the process of getting new providers to sort out the switch, and is welcoming opinions from the public. However, this has raised concerns that giving providers more power to make the switch could result in consumers being switched without their knowledge or consent.

Ofcom stated: “There are a lot of different switching processes in the communications market, some the industry came up with, some the previous regulators sorted out – so it’s not surprising that people don’t find it easy to switch. There needs to be some level of consumer protection in there, but the process needs to be simple enough for people to take advantage of competition, better services and cheaper prices.”
