MAC code delays for over a third of Brits
According to recent figures over one third of consumers that tried to switch their Internet service provider last year experienced delays in getting their MAC code, which caused them problems when it came to making the switch.
Many people decide to switch Internet service provider each year, and one of the things that they need to do in order to successfully make the switch is to obtain a MAC code from their existing Internet provider. The MAC, or Migration Authorisation Code, is something that is necessary for consumers to switch their providers, but for many it is not easy to get the necessary information from their existing provider.
A recent report has shown that more than one third of Brits that wanted to switch their Internet provider last year experienced delays in getting their MAC code from their provider, with around thirty four percent stating that they experienced difficulties in getting this information from their existing service provider.
Worryingly, four percent of those that were planning to switch provider last year said that the delays in getting the necessary information resulted in them changing their minds about switching provider because of the hassle involved, indicating that despite regulations from the UK communications regulator Ofcom some ISPs may still be delaying giving this information to consumers in the hope that they will decide not to switch after all.
One industry official said: “Ofcom rules on MAC codes have been in place for some time but delays and complications clearly remain a huge issue for those who want to change provider. I can’t see why delays occur; the providers should have a simple process in place. The fact that customers give up on swapping to a better deal solely because of MAC problems is not acceptable, people are losing out on big savings.”
