It has been suggested by one industry official that consumers and businesses that fail to embrace the internet could end up missing out on a range of valuable opportunities.

Many people these days are well aware of the many different and exciting opportunities that are made available through access to broadband and internet services, and the benefits of broadband have resulted in the majority of households and businesses now embracing and regularly using this technology.

One industry official has now spoken out to reiterate how those consumers and businesses that fail to embrace broadband and internet services could end up missing out on a range of valuable opportunities. According to Abi Stevens from UK Online Centres broadband has become increasingly vital in today’s society for both residential users and businesses. This is an opinion that has already been voiced by many industry groups and internet advocates, which is why so many people are concerned about the digital divide that still exists in the country.

According to Ms Stevens the internet enables businesses and consumers to save money, but also gives them the ability to provide or benefit from improved services. She also suggested that being able to access the internet was important when it came to educations and job opportunities because society was becoming increasingly reliant on this type of technology.

Ms Stevens stated: “Those left behind are unable to get that easy and immediate access to information, the quick transactions or the special deals. At work, around 90 per cent of all new jobs now require internet skills, with a significant proportion now advertised and applied for only over the internet.”
