JT Global’s trial lets Jersey users experience superfast broadband
The government has been setting out to improve the state of broadband in the UK. For this reason, the Broadband Delivery UK project was launched. The two primary goals of BDUK are as follows: to provide universal broadband access with speeds of at least 2Mbps to the entire country, and to bring next-generation broadband technology to at least ninety-percent of Britain by the year 2015.
Various Internet service providers are working hand in hand with the government to achieve these goals, including BT Broadband. JT Global is also set on improving the broadband connections in Jersey.

Late last December, JT announced that they would be offering a broadband trial in Jersey, where over 500 homes and businesses will be able to experience their fibre broadband services, free of charge.
In related news, the first homes in Jersey have been switched to the new, superfast broadband services being offered by JT as part of the technology trial. The government-owned Internet service provider expects the entire island to switch to the new superfast fibre network that can reach speeds of up to 1Gbps by the year 2016.
Twenty four homes have already been added to the trial, with more being added every day. This number will eventually ramp up to 500 in the coming weeks.
The trial is open to customers of all service providers and is focussed on La Rocque, Fauvic and La Moye.
Graeme Millar, chief executive of JT, said: “Clearly it takes time to replace the island-wide copper cable network, and we nee to do that in stages to minimise disruption and gain appropriate access to the 42,000 homes. Thankfully when we laid the copper, we did it in such a way as to make it as easy as possible to replace, which will help to keep that disruption to a minimum.”
