Following a recent study is has been suggested that Internet Service Providers need to be clearer with regards to what products are on offer and any restrictions that apply

A recent study has been carried out into the broadband market by ZyXEL and leading analysts Quocirca. Following the study it has been suggested that Internet Service Providers in the UK need to be more transparent and clearer with regards to broadband allowances, tariffs, product ranges, and restrictions. The report also suggested that some smaller Internet Service Providers were being pushed out of the market.

Officials involved in the study said that some ISPs could be facing a tough future, and that the boom of ISPs had slowed down. However, they did add that the broadband market was attracting greater financial interest due to increasingly advanced technology being deployed and plans for further technological advancement.

Based on the research officials said that ISPs need to now look at offering a greater range of services, and that they should be looking into offering different levels of access rather than focusing on just a handful of specific packages. It was further suggested that ISPs need to ensure that consumers are provided with a greater understanding of the use and availability of the products made available.

ISPs need to ensure that they explain their products and services in more detail to consumers that may not have a great deal of technological knowledge, concluded the report. This could help some ISPs to hang on to consumers that may otherwise move to another provider. It has been found that in the north-east of England around three quarters of consumers have switched provider in the last twelve months, and nationally this figure is around fifty nine percent.
