The UK Internet Service Providers Association has announced the names of its yearly internet industry awards, with BE Broadband and Freedom4 named as best providers.

Following its annual internet industry awards the UK Internet Service Providers Association has recently announced the results of the awards winners. Two of the companies to come out on top were BE Broadband, which is owned by O2 and won the best fixed line consumer ISP, and Freedom4 WiFi, which won the best mobile broadband award over better known rival providers such as Orange and O2.

The Internet Villain Award, which is anything but prestigious, went to Lord Peter Mandelson, and this was for his role in the controversial Digital Economy Bill. The industry has been against parts of the Digital Economy Bill relating to changes in dealing with Internet piracy and illegal downloaders. Mandelson came under further fire when the Bill was rushed into law before the dissolution of parliament earlier this year without proper debate taking place according to many.

The Internet Hero award went to the Labour MP Tom Watson, who was opposed to the Digital Economy Act. The awards have now been running for over ten years, and their aim is to celebrate best practice within the internet industry, recognise achievement, and encourage innovation amongst internet service providers.

There were a number of other winners in this year’ awards, and this included PlusNet for Best Consumer Customer Service, Childnet for the Internet Safety Award, Namesco for the Best Shared Hosting award, NewNet for Best Dedicated Hosting, Calara.net for the Best Business Customer Service and Best Fixed Line Business Broadband award.
