Is bundling the best choice for broadband customers?
With the popularity of broadband and digital television services soaring in the UK, many consumers are opting for bundle packages where they receive their television, phone, and broadband service from the same provider. A new report that was recently released by Ofcom indicates that an increasing number of consumers in the UK are deciding to go for bundle services from one provider rather than taking separate services from different providers, and in many cases this can be a wise choice, as it can work out cheaper and more convenient.
However, one industry professional has stated that some bundles may involve hidden costs, and could also mean that the customer has to put up with compromised service. He added that consumers should be careful, and should consider separating their services if this is more beneficial. He stated: “As ISPs rush to stake a monopoly in people’s homes, they are cutting corners on service – as seen with TalkTalk and Orange broadband – or making up for cheap packages with high call charges.”
He added: “People should consider splitting their services between the providers that offer the best in one, or two areas. For example, they could get the high-speed broadband of the future from Be Broadband, with the cheap line rental and call packages of YourCalls.”
Yvan Bamping of broadband comparison site Broadband Expert stated that “although bundle packages can appear to be cheaper consumers need to watch out for hidden costs. It is also important to look at the bigger picture when deciding on broadband, phone, and television services and to decide how important customer service levels areâ€. In a recent survey twenty seven percent of respondents said that bundling was the most important factor in choosing a provider. Another twenty seven percent said that price was the most important factor.
