Is broadband eliminating passion?

October 28th, 2009 by Richard

A recent study has suggested that for many young couples in Britain the availability of broadband services could be reducing the passion in the relationship.

For many young couples in Britain passion and romance is an important part of the relationship. However there is evidence to suggested that the availability of broadband coupled with the rising number of people that have access to laptops is killing the passion in some relationships, with one half of the couple, or in some cases both parties, being more interested in getting online than spending time being passionate and romantic with one another.

The study was carried out by VisitBritain and BT Mobile Broadband, and the results were described as startling. For example, there was a time when going on holiday as a couple was an opportunity to spend quality time together and enjoy fun and romance. However, the study showed that a massive two thirds of eighteen to twenty five year olds spend most of the time whilst they are on holiday online, using social networking sites, uploading photographs, and tweeting.

The Internet has even revolutionised holidays for older people, with more than fifty percent of those aged fifty one and over admitting to taking their laptops on holiday with them, and nearly ninety percent of people in this age group admitting to using their laptop to get online whilst away and research places of historical interest to visit.

An official from BT Retail stated: “We now want to get online when we are out and about and this research proves we rely heavily on being connected to the internet at all times. With nearly half of Brits holidaying in the UK this year and BT Total Broadband customers able to get online using the dongle and the BT FON network, this is the perfect time to get away, get online and discover some of the country’s best kept secrets.”
