Investment needed in IT skills as well as network infrastructure

A recent survey has revealed that senior officials working in the IT industry want to see not only investment in improved network infrastructure but also in improvement of IT skills.

In a recent survey many IT managers have been calling for faster broadband as one of the major areas for investment, with over two thirds of IT managers stating that this was a priority when it came to infrastructural improvements. However, the survey also showed that many senior workers in the IT sector also wanted to see investment in the improvement of IT related skills.

The survey was carried out by the British Computer Society, and showed that senior personnel within the IT sector were keen to see increased investment in the improvement of IT skills, which some said was essential to the recovery of the economy and could make a big difference when it came to the future of the employment sector, as it meant that many more people would be able to work from home.

IT officials said that further investment in the improvement of IT skills as well as improved broadband services would mean that a greater number of workers would be able to enjoy more flexible working conditions, such as being able to work from home, and could also enable companies to utilise other methods of working other than being tied to one location.

Some have said that this is particularly important given that more and more people are looking to work remotely rather than from an office, and bearing in mind that if predictions of a further round of swine flu later this year come to fruition then many people could be forced to work from home, which could prove difficult if they do not have the necessary skills.
