It has been announced that Internet users in West Wight are set to benefit from high speed broadband, as this service makes its way to this area. What’s more, the first one hundred and thirty people to sign up to the service will enjoy being connected free of charge, enabling them to get better value for money and benefit from high speed internet access.

Funds were secured recently to bring faster broadband to the Yarmouth Telephone Exchange area, which includes Wellow, Thorley, Ningwood and Fort Victoria and Yarmouth. The Rural Development for England funds were secured by Natural Enterprise, which worked with local businesses and residents in the area to bring the broadband service to rural parts of the South East region.

Managing director of Natural Enterprise Graham Biss stated: “Everyone’s reliance on the internet is increasing, so to get high-speed broadband is a chance to keep rural areas competitive.” Laurence Mitchell, Yarmouth Business Association representative who is also the owner of Laurence Mitchell Jewellers in the area added: “Yarmouth Business Association has supported this project from the outset. It’s vital for our businesses to be competitive.”

Paul Wood, managing director of Navigate IT and Telecoms, said: “We have been line testing and it’s encouraging to see in most cases we can anticipate some speeds in excess of 18 megabits per second.”

Brian Friend, chairman of Natural Enterprise, said: “We recognise the importance of connectivity and want to give our local economy the competitive edge it needs.”
