Internet traffic to soar over next few years
The Internet Highway is already a hugely busy place but according to recent reports the level of global Internet traffic is set to soar over the coming few years.

Over the past ten years or so the level of traffic on the Internet has been increasing steadily, with more and more people gaining access to the Internet and realising the benefits of getting online. As broadband services have become more popular and affordable, and adoption of broadband has increased, the level of traffic on the Internet has also increased.
According to a recent report the level of Internet traffic is set to soar even further over the coming few years, with global online traffic set to quadruple by 2015. The research was carried out by networking giant Cisco, which claims that business broadband adoption will be amongst the factors that are set to see the levels of global Internet traffic increase.
The prediction about the increase in Internet traffic came from the Cisco Visual Networking Index Forecast, which claims that Internet traffic is set to reach reach 966 Exabytes over the coming four years. Online traffic is expected to rocket between 2014 and 2015. By 2015 around three billion people, equating to around forty percent of the global population, will be using the Internet according to this prediction.
Cisco vice president Suraj Shetty stated: “The explosive growth in internet data traffic, especially video, creates an opportunity in the years ahead for optimising and monetising visual, virtual and mobile internet experiences.”
