Internet safety issues to be a priority for government
The government has launched a new strategy that will put Internet safety for children at the forefront of its aims, with the strategy being entitled ‘Click Clever, Click Safe.’
There is little doubt in most people’s minds that the availability of broadband services in the UK has proven to be highly beneficial to children in many ways, including enabling them to gain knowledge and conduct research to meet their educational needs and goals. However, there has also been a darker side of broadband Internet access, which has concerned many adults when it comes to the safety of children.
A new strategy has been developed by the government that is called ‘Click Clever, Click Safe’, and the aim of the strategy is to increase safety for children when it comes to the Internet. As part of its strategy the government will put the online safety of kids in the UK at the forefront of its goals, which may prove something of a relief to the many parents that are worried about just how safe their kids are when online.
The government has developed the equivalent of a Green Cross Code for road safety, but this version related to Internet safety with parents and kids being targeted with a new digital code, which is ‘Zip it, Block it, Flag it’ . Also, according to reports part of the compulsory curriculum for children aged five years and over will be Internet safety.
The UK Council on Child Internet Safety (UKCCIS) have helped to draw up the measures so that the goals of the government can be reached in terms of prioritising on Internet safety for children. The Council was set up in 2008 to help improve safety for children online.
