How did we manage without broadband?
Recent research has shown that consumers in the UK have become so reliant on broadband and mobile phone technology that many would not know how to manage if they did not have these services.
For many people in the UK broadband services and mobile phones have become a part of everyday life, and many use these services to more or less manage their lives. Picking up the landline or writing a letter has become a thing of the past for many people, with the main methods of communication now being the mobile phone or the Internet.
Recent research has shown that many people would struggle to keep in touch with friends and even family members if they did not have access to mobiles and broadband, and some said that they would definitely communication less with loved ones if these services were not available. Worryingly fourteen percent said that they would have no idea how to keep in touch with friends and family if they did not have these services.
An official that was involved in the research stated: “Mobile phones and the internet have become a way of life for millions of people and it is clear from this research that without these essential items, people would find it hard to contact friends and family and would worry about missing out on things.”
She added: “Technology has developed so much over the last 10 years and the capabilities and functionality of phones and the internet have meant people are spending an increasing amount of time using them. For example, mobiles are no longer just used as phones and as a result people have become more and more dependent on them. If people are using the internet or mobile phone for large periods of time, then I would urge them to check they are on a deal that suits their needs.
Some providers charge extortionate amounts for going over your broadband download limit, and minutes and texts outside your bundle can often be quite expensive.”
